Medaram Jatara, popularly known as Sammakka Sarakka Jathara, is a tribal festival dedicated to Sammakka and Sarakka, two tribal Goddesses, celebrated at Medaram village in Eturunagaram forest area in Warangal district of Andhra Pradesh. Medaram is a village in thick forest which transforms into a cosmopolis during this Jathara. Medaram Jathara in 2012 will start on February 8, 2012 and end on 11 February. It is celebrated for four days in Magha masam or Magh month.

Sammakka Sarakka Jathara

Medaram Sammakka Sarakka Jatara is the second largest religious congregation after the Maha Kumbh Mela. The celebrations commemorate the furious fight of a mother and daughter, Sammakka and Sarakka, against the cruel and wicked rulers.

Medaram Sammakka Sarakka Jathara attracts approximately seven million devotees all across India mainly from Andhra Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Jharkhand, Maharashtra, Orissa, and Karnataka. Thousands of foreign tourists visit the tribal fair and enjoy the tribal spirit. The major ritual during the fair is offering Bangaram (Jaggery) to the Goddesses. Colorful bullock carts are also stand as one of the attractive aspects of this largest tribal fair in the world. Pavitra Snanam in Japanna Vagu or the stream or rivulet near Medaram temple is considered highly auspicious.
