A comparison of Lalita Sahasranama with other Sahasranama's
It is considered that Sahasranama worship was not existed during the age of VEDAS. The worship of Devata (Deity) with selected 1000 names came popular during the age of Itihasa’s. Vishnu Sahasranama, which is considered to be the First Sahasranama ever known. It is in the ‘Anushasana Parva’ of Mahabharata Bheshma advised the Vishnu Sahasranama to yudishtira. After a long time the Mantra-Tantra Science developed to a complete stage and it is considered that during that time Lalitha Sahasranama came to Existence.
In Vishnu Sahasranama more importance is given to the formless nature (Amoortha bhava) of Param Purusha (Lord). There are only a few mantras which describe the Human Nature of Maha Vishnu. But in Lalita Sahasranama Special Importance has given to the character, form, dressing style and Stories of Devi along with the Formless, Subtle and super most nature. This will help to empower the imagination of devotee which makes the worship easier.
In other Sahasranamas many Avvyaya’s (indeclinable words) such as ‘cha’ ‘api’ etc are used in plenty for the beauty of poetry. Though many long word mantras were used in lalita sahasranama, it was written in a very beautiful poetic language providing the complete power and meaning of mantras without using such ‘Avyaya’s ‘. It is a miraculous thing that the Sahasranama was created in such a way that the both the beauty of language and richness of mantra meaning were attained equally. It is considered that this miracle was happened because the Lalita Sahasranama is said to have been composed by ‘Vak Devatas’, who are considered as the authorities of sound and language.
A unique specialty of Lalitha Sahasranama is its Excellency in literature. ‘Paunaruktyam’ – (Repetition of mantras) is not in Lalitha Sahasranama. In Vishnu Sahasranama there are 76 names which are repeated twice, 13 names repeated 3 times and two names repeated for 4 times. But the unique importance of Lalita Sahasranama is that there is no repetition of mantras. There are plenty of Many-lettered words in Lalitha Sahasranam which shows its structural quality of literature. Given below is a comparison of mantras of Vishnu Sahasranama and Lalita sahasranam in letter structure.
There are special mantra allocations for each mantra in lalita Sahasranama. The mantras are allocated in such a way that the recitation and Archana(puja) with these mantras will expand the mantra frequency, which is known as’ Mantrodharana’. Everything in the universe has a frequency. Every mantra has its frequency. This frequency overlaps constructively with the frequency of the Sadhak (spiritual aspirant doing Spiritual practices) by practice. When the amplitude of mantra frequency expands due to daily recitation, the Sadhak’s frequency which is overlapped with it also expands.
