25 March 2012 is Matsya Jayanti (Matsyotpatti). It is the first appearance day of Lord Vishnu’s first avatar (fish incarnation). Among Vishnu’s Dashavatar, Matsya Avatar is the primary and the first avatar from which evolution has started. Matsya Jayanti falls on the third day in Shukla Paksha of Chaitra Month.

Matsya Jayanti is celebrated in Vishnu temples all around India. Nagalapuram Veda Narayana Swamy Temple (the one and only Matsyavatara Temple in the world) near Tirumala Tirupati is the best temple to visit during Matsya Jayanti. Theppotsavam (boat festival) is celebrated here during the festival.

25 March 2012 is Gangaur Tritiya (Gangauri Puja, Gauri Tritiya), Dola Gowri Vratham, Soubhagya Tritiya Gauri Puja. It falls on the third day of Shukla Paksha in Chaitra month. In Rajasthan, Gangaur Puja commences on the first day of Chaitra month, the next day to Holi festival and continues for 18 days. Unmarried girls and newly wedded girls observe Gangaur Gauri Puja with utmost gaiety.

In other parts of North India and South Indian states, Gauri Tritiya is observed as Dola Gowri Vratham, Soubhagya Gauri Vratham & Sowbhagya Shayana Vratham. Gauri Pujan is the major ritual of the day. Shiva Shakti Pujan is also performed on this day.

This vrat is also referred to as Manorath Tritiya, Andolan Tritiya & Arundhati Vrat.
