Lord The Katha Sarit Sagara: Ocean of Streams of Story

Kadhasaritsagara  (ocean of Stories). It is a famous collection of stories by Hindu legends in form of folk and Fairy tales compiled by Somadeva, a brahmin. This whole book was compiled during the age of queen Suryamati, wife of Anantadeva, king of Kashmir during CE 1063-81. It consists of 18 books of 124 chapters and more than 21,000 verses in addition to prose sections.  It consists of the Stories and advanture life of Naravahanadatha, son of king Udayana. The legendary life of naravahanadatha is the central story and other tales are built around this main story. It also contains the Vetalapanchavimsati, or Baital Pachisi, in its twelfth section. The kathasaritsagara is believed to be origined from Gunadhyas Brihat kadha from South india. But the kashmirian version by Somadeva is different from the Original version and it is also related to Brihatkadha-Sloka samagraha of Budhasvamin from Nepal.
