In the folklore of Durga Puja in Bengal, Saraswati is considered to be a daughter of Shiva along with her sister Lakshmi and her brothers Ganesha and en.wikipedia.org Saraswati: Goddess of Knowledge & Arts Goddess Hindu God Arts Festival Greek God Goddess Hindu Food Culture
Saraswati, the goddess of knowledge and arts, represents the free flow of wisdom and consciousness. She is the mother of the Vedas, and chants to her, called the 'Saraswati Vandana' often begin and end Vedic lessons.
Saraswati is the daughter of Lord Shiva and Goddess Durga. It is believed that goddess Saraswati endows human beings with the powers of speech, wisdom and learning. She has four hands representing four aspects of human personality in learning: mind, intellect, alertness and ego. She has sacred scriptures in one hand and a lotus – the symbol of true knowledge – in the second.
With her other two hands she plays the music of love and life on a string instrument called the veena. She is dressed in white – the symbol of purity – and rides on a white swan – symbolizing Sattwa Guna or purity and discrimination. Saraswati is also a prominent figure in Buddhist iconography - the consort of Manjushri.

The learned and the erudite attach greater importance to the worship of goddess Saraswati. As a practice, only educated people worship her for knowledge and wisdom. They believe that only Saraswati can grant them 'moksha' - the final liberation of the soul.

Saraswati's birthday - Vasant Panchami - is a Hindu festival celebrated every year on the 5th day of the bright fortnight of the lunar month of Magha. Hindus celebrate this festival with great fervor in temples, homes and educational institutes alike.

The following prayer is recited on this day:

"May Goddess Saraswati,
who is fair like the jasmine-colored moon,
and whose pure white garland is like frosty dew drops;
who is adorned in radiant white attire,
on whose beautiful arm rests the veena,
and whose throne is a white lotus;
who is surrounded and respected by the Gods, protect me.
May you fully remove my lethargy, sluggishness, and ignorance."

Saraswati is the goddess of arts, music, knowledge, and wisdom. Saraswati is considered as the divine consort of Lord Brahma, the Creator of the universe as per the Hindu Religion. Saraswati is regarded as the destroyer of chaos and confusion. Slokas on Saraswati form the part of prayers offered to the goddess. Saraswati Slokas/ Shlokas are as follows:

Lord Deeparadhana Mantras / Slokas | Chant during Lighting Diya or Lamp | Deepajyothi Parabrahma | Prayer

Deeparadhana Mantras, Slokas to Chant during Lighting Diya or Lamp

Deeparadhana or lighting a lamp or diya is an important tradition to follow during any puja or ritual. Devotees chant several mantras or slokas during Deepa aradhana. A Diya is symbol of Goddess Lakshmi, Saraswati and Goddess Durga as per many scriptures. Standing diya symbolizes the divine energy which can get away the darkness of sorrow and get us the brightness of joy.

Before starting any daily prayer or puja, light an oil lamp by chanting the below sloka
Subham Karoti Kalyanam
Arogyam Dhana Sampadah
Shatru Buddhi Vinashaya
Deepa Jyotir Namostute

After lighting the deepak place kumkum (vermillion), haldi (haridrika churna – turmeric) on the edges of the Lamp holders and place Akshatas near the lamp holders. In recent times, most of the devotees are using stainless steel lamps but it is recommended to use bronze, copper, silver or golden lamps.

After lighting the lamp, chant the below prayer
Deepajyothi Parabrahma
Deepajyothi Janardhana
Deepo me hara tu paapam
Deepa Jyothir Namostuthe

What an earthen lamp means?
An earthen lamp (pramida) tells us ‘our duty to do a particular thing and undo some other thing’. The below sholka denotes it clearly..
“Vairagya thaila sampurne bhakti varthi samanvithe
Prabodha purnapathre thu gnapthi deepam vilokayeth”

It means – the oil in the lamp is ‘Vairagya’ (dispassion / renunciation from the material world), the lighting deepa is ‘Gnana Jyoti’ (divine light of wisdom) and the cotton wick or tape is the ‘bhakti’ (devotion / dedication) which makes us closer to moksha (liberation from samsara / salvation).

Lord Sri Tembe Swami Jayanti Shri Vasudevanand Saraswati Tembe Swami Maharaj

Sri Tembe Swami Jayanti celebrates the birth anniversary of Sri Tembe Swami. Shri Vasudevanand Saraswati Tembe Swami Maharaj was a modern Hindu saint who revived the ancient Dattatreya tradition in Maharashtra during the 19th century. Sri Tembe Swami Jayanti 2011 date is on August 19.

The Jayanti celebrations are annually held on the Krishna Paksha Panchami tithi in Shravan month – fifth day during the waning phase of moon.

In nutshell the teaching of Sri Tembe Swami is that the primary objective of human life is to obtain liberation (from the recurring cycles of birth and death). To this end, one should carry out one’s religious obligations as ordained by the scriptures, consistent with his Varna and Ashram.

To attain the objective liberation he advocated study (Shravan), contemplation (Manan) and meditation (Nididhyasan) of Vedanta (conclusion of Vedas). He also laid on emphasis on taking lessons from detached and realized persons.
