Lord Yama Dvitiya 2011 Yam Dwitiya Bhai Bij Beej Dhooj

Yama Dvitiya or Yam Dwitiya is the last day of five-day Diwali celebrations. Yama Dwitiya 2011 date is 28 October 2011, Friday. Yam Dwitiya is also called as Bhai Dhooj or Bhai Bij or Bhai Beej. In South India, it is called as Yama Dwitiya. Legend of Yama Dwitiya is associated with the God of death – Yama Dharma Raj. He visit his sister Yamis home on this day.

In North India, it is widely celebrated as Bhai Dhooj. In Bengal this festival is celebrated as Bhai Phonta or Bhai Phota. Bhai Tika is the other name of this festival in Nepal.

Raksha Bandhan (Rakhi Purnima, Rakhi festival) is one of the biggest festivals in Hinduism. Raksha Bandhan 2011 date is August 13, Saturday. Raksha bandhan is celebrated on Shravan Purnima, the Full Moon day in Shravan month (August) . Rakhi Purnima festival highlights the eternal love and affection between brother and sister.

On Rakhi Purnima day various rituals are observed in different parts of India. Narali Purnima is celebrated on Rakhi Purnima day during which fisherman communities in Maharashtra and Konkan regions worship the Sea God and Earth.

In Gujarat, Rakhi Poornima or Raksha Bandhan is also celebrated as Pavitropana. Rakhi Poornima is also known as Shravani in Northern and western parts of India.

Central regions of India like Madhya Pradesh, Bihar, Chhattisgarh, and Jharkhand celebrate Rakhi Poornima as Kajari Purnima or Kajri Poornima.

In Andhra Pradesh, Jandhyala Purnima is celebrated on Rakhi festival. The main ritual of this festival is changing Jandhyam or Yagnopaveetham, the sacred thread. Avani Avittam is the similar ritual followed in Tamil Nadu and Kerala on Rakhi Pournami day.

Several famous Yatra or pilgrimage tours are culminated on Rakhi Purnima festival.
