Lord Benefits of Chanting Lalitha sahasranam in Ammas words

Amma says the benefits and importance of chanting the lalithasahasranama
Sri Lalitha Sahasranam is an ancient sacred hymn to the divine mother which is said to bring many blessing to ourself and to the world.
Mother who has listen the sorrows of millions of people all around the world and she dedicated her life for the relief of their pains, as a result of her untiring efforts lalitha sahasranama archana  has been wide spread even among the general public.  Mother, with her untiring efforts usually arranges big group of devotees chanting sahasranama in india and abroad. If you ask someone who has participated in this Group archana, they say it’s very energizing and the feeling of some divine presence. Amma says the importance of chanting the 1000 names of Lalitha parameswari in the present time. In the present age, the instinct of motherly love and compassion has been lost from human minds. Feminine qualities like compassion and love should be stronger in men and masculine qualities like steadiness and courage nous should grow in women; rapid growth will be then possible in both material and spiritual life. The worship of the divine mother is ideal for enhancing these good qualities. The worship using lalithasahasranam has the upmost value in developing peace and prosperity in family life and for the peace and prosperity of the world. Amma says there will never be a shortage of food or clothing in homes where lalitha sahasranama is chanted.  In ancient days Gurus when giving mantra to their disciples usually instructed to do lalitha sahasranama archana as well. That was because Divine mother will take care of the disciple through the grace of the 1000 names.  The best time for chanting the sahasranam is during the morning time.
Amma says lalitha devi will protect always those who chant the sacred lalitha sahasranama , there will not be a shortage of food or clothing for those who chants lalitha sahasranam daily with devotion and they will attain spiritual uplift as well.
Amma says doing daily lalitha sahasranama Archana is beneficial for the prosperity of own house and for the peace of whole world.  Archana is a penance for the wrong deeds or misconduct in the past and gives strength to live a dharmic(the do’s and donts which may vary from person to person) life.  Even the atmosphere is cleansed if archana is done daily.  Amma says doing Archana will invoke the latent powers of our each nadhi, which are the energy channels located in the etheric body or energy body and it does not mean the physical nerves.  Chanting this Sahasranama brings prosperity to one's self and family, and it purifies, protects and brings quick and tremendous spiritual advancement.  "The Lalita Sahasranama is the golden chain that links the material and the spiritual realms. Although the chant may seem difficult, it is very easy to begin with a little practice. Amma says children if you do archana daily with concentration and devotion, you need not perform any other poojas or homams to get rid of the bad effects in certain astrological periods. Archana is a remedy for all.
You can get archana book transliterated in English from ammas shop.  In addition to this beautiful chant, this booklet also includes various prayers and sacred mantras, as well as a manasa puja, or mental worship of the Divine Mother composed by Amma herself. Also includes the 108 names of Amma.
Archana book in languages other than english is available at Ammas ashram book stalls.
I prefer the best is to buy Lalithasahasranama booklet from ammas book shops, unlike booklet from other shops it will be free from printing errors which may cause misspell of mantras.

Lord Attachment to the Guru helps one to free oneself from all other bondages

Attachment to the Guru is good in that it helps one to free oneself from all other bondage's. One should have a strong relationship with the Guru and ardent love towards Him. Such love is blind and it should be blind in this respect. If love is not blind in the beginning, then it is not love at all. Openness of mind and expansiveness will come through that kind of blind love. This blind love in the beginning enables one to see everything as one's own Self later on. The Guru is not an individual. He is the all-pervading Consciousness, the Supreme Truth. So blind love towards the Guru will lead one to oneness with the Divine Consciousness. AMMA (Satguru Sri Mata Amritanandamayi Devi)

Lord Who is a Grahasthashrami

A griha (house) can be converted into an ashram. An ashram is a place where people devote all their time and energy to the remembrance of God, doing selfless service and developing qualities like love, patience and respect for others. They do spiritual practices to help them see unity in diversity. Family life can also be like this. It was like this before, in the olden days. That is why a householder devotee is known as a grihasthashrami, a person who leads an ashram life while remaining in his house. He is a person who tries hard to attain the supreme goal, bliss, even while living with his wife and children. This is possible if you sincerely try- Amma

Lord Urgency for Spiritual Practices

There is an urgent need for people to observe and practice spiritual principles. That is the only way to save the world and the human race from destruction. Doubt will destroy all of our good tendencies. Put aside your doubts and call out for help to the Supreme Lord. Pray, meditate and perform other spiritual practices. Everyone has a responsibility to save humanity. You too have a part to play. By doing your duty with the utmost sincerity and love, you are helping your own Self. You are saving your own life, which in turn will help society as well. –Amma

Lord How do we overcome dullness of mind during Japa or Meditation?

This is a problem that almost everybody has. As soon as they sit down, they immediately fall asleep or shortly afterwards starting Sadhana. Some people don’t even know that they are sleeping; they think that they are in Samadhi! This is probably the reason when people fall asleep in front of mother when they are meditating why Mother says; Look they are in Samadhi!!:)
Samadhi is not Sleep and Sleep is not Samadhi. They are two totally different things and also you could say that they are opposites. Sleep is full of Darkness and Samadhi is all light. So as Darkness and light are opposites Samadhi and sleep are also opposites :)
To understand how to overcome this obstacle of sleeping while meditation because the purpose of meditation is not sleep but to get concentration, we have to understand what causing this dullness or in Sanskrit it is called TAMAS.
One of the first causes is eating. So are we supposed to not eat and meditate? No you can eat, but understand that when you eat much of the energy and blood in the body goes to the digestive system to digest the food. So its not available for concentration. So we are not supposed to Meditate right after taking a heavy meal. It will be very difficult unless we are very advanced in Meditation.  You know people after taking heavy meals they feel like sleepy. So it’s not the time to meditate after meal. So if you plan to eat before meditation, eat at least few hours before meditation so there will be more energy available for concentration and the digestive system will be free from burden. Other thing is if you plan to meditate at the morning don’t eat much at night.
If you want to eat something at night eat fruits and Milk and not cooked foods. Since they are not heavy food they won’t be a burden for the digestive system. If you follow this you will see that you are more energetic and not sleepy at the morning and you can make it better by taking only milk as Dinner. It may not seem like any connection with eating food and meditating in the morning! But every person who tries to get early up and meditate knows there is a connection with this two. So it is from experience we are saying this.
Another cause of the Tamas is we are used to have a very active life style. We always want to do something every time (except for the lazy ones) and our mind and body is in that kind of gear or in that mode of Rajasic Activity. Our system will not understand what is going on if we suddenly sit down and start stopping every activity to meditate. So it falls down to the next lower rung which is inertia. Our mind goes from Activity to inertia.  Instead of going up to the next higher rung or peace it goes down because our mind is not trained to Go to that higher levels and has no energy to go to that level. The only place it knows and goes is down that is into dullness or Tamas. How do we overcome this Tamas when we are Rajasic people or very active people? There are a number of things that the sages and our mother have advised us.
One is get sufficient sleep at night. But don’t get too much sleep at night. You have to find how much is needed for you and try to stick to that. For some people 5 hours is enough and for someone 7 hours is not enough. You have to find out, you have to play around with it and experiment with it. Nothing will happen if you sleep more by half an hour or less by half an hour, it’s not going to be the end of world or you are not going to stop yourself from self realization. So try to figure out what is optimum for you. Don’t sleep more than you need and don’t sleep less than you need. For Some people their health is not good so they need little more sleep. Don’t compare to others when it come how much you need to sleep.
Another thing is you should take shower in the morning. You should take shower in the morning before meditation because it washes out lot of Tamasic energy developed during sleep. Don’t take hot water for your shower. Even though you used to use cold water for shower because it feels so nice, if you wanna meditate in the morning and succeed in that try to bath with the possible coolest water you could bear. Actually even Amma does this, she always take the coolest water she could bear. Amma says a Sadhak (spiritual aspirant) should bath in the possible coolest water he could bear and that is good for Sadhana. infact Mother cannot be considered as a Sadhak but almost everything she does is as a role model for her children. So we should not use hot water unless we have health problems like rheumatism and arthritis or some problem like that. It is also good for your skin since, it will not dry out much. It’s good for the nervous system also. And like that we should try to meditate in a cool place. Don’t turn up the heat to many degrees in your room. Open the windows and don’t wear very warm clothes.

Lord Ignorance about SatGuru

Sunday, June 6, 1999. It was the last day of the Seattle retreat. Torrential rains and the biting cold didn't deter a lot of people from coming. A huge crowd had arrived for the public darshan. I sat next to Amma for some time during the darshan.
A Jewish man came up to her and asked for a mantra. He had previously been initiated with a Hebrew mantra, and told me that he wanted Amma to give him the same mantra. When I translated this to Amma, she looked at him and smiled.
I asked him for the mantra and wrote it down on a piece of paper. It was a long mantra, consisting of six lines. I wrote it down phonetically in Malayalam, so that Amma would be able to read it. About 15 minutes later, as I was about to show the piece of paper to Amma, I noticed that she was whispering something in the man's ear. He then got up to leave.
I was puzzled and asked him, "Did you receive a mantra from Amma?"
"Yes, Amma chanted that same mantra in my ear," he replied.
I was completely stunned, because the paper on which the mantra was written was still in my hand. Also, the mantra was in Hebrew, not Sanskrit. But, then, nothing is a miracle as far as Amma is concerned.
When I enquired further, the man informed me that Amma had pronounced the mantra in fluent Hebrew, with the ease and perfect pronunciation of a Jew! His eyes were full of tears as he said this.
I asked him to tell me the meaning of the mantra. And then, even though it was an unpardonable act, due to my acute ignorance, I decided to test Mother.
I asked her the meaning of that mantra. Amma smiled at me. I felt that it was an extremely sarcastic smile. Even though it was freezing cold, I found myself sweating profusely. I was almost in tears, thinking about the grave mistake I had just committed.
But a moment later Amma's face was full of compassion. She drew me towards her and whispered the meaning of the mantra in my ear. I was amazed because Amma said exactly what the man had said to me. Though long, the mantra could be condensed to "Let the Truth shine within me."
Hours later when the darshan came to an end, I still had a guilty conscience because I felt I had committed a serious mistake. After the darshan I went inside the temple. Amma was talking with the other swamis, but she looked at me from time to time with a smile. She called me to her and put some prasad in my mouth. She looked deeply into my eyes.
I became aware of the depths of my ignorance. My condition was similar to that of the salt doll that sets out to measure the depth of the sea! I felt so ashamed to think that even after 20 years I hadn't understood an iota of Amma's greatness, and I deeply regretted that I had tested her

Lord The State of Super consciousness is Evident

Ammas words penetrate deeply into our inner soul. It is evident when amma says from her experience that a state of Super consciousness exists.  Amma Says: “Children you should not be Satisfied with the material level of consciousness only. There is an all-knowing, all-powerful and omnipresent State; to attain this state is the very purpose of human life”.

Lord Grace through Repetition

Repetition is very much important in Spiritual practices. It is not a silly thing; repetition is the whole key in the path of self realization.  For example Mantra japa, we don’t even have to know the meaning of our Mantra. Mother says it’s enough you repeat it and don’t bother about the meaning. Just that repetition, again and again will gradually purifies the mind, will decrease thoughts.  And everything will start to reveal itself. I knew a swami, he had been told by a mahatma to read the whole ‘Tulsi Ramayana’ 108 times. ‘Tulsi Ramayana’ is not a small book. He was said by a soul realized mahatma; if you want to make spiritual progress you read it 108 times. Tulsi Ramayana is a wonderful divine book written by a great Soul ‘Tulsi Das’, it’s about the incarnations of lord Rama. The swami took it very seriously; he knew that if a mahatma is telling to do a thing, then God is telling to do that thing. That is how we also should interact with Great Souls.  if they tell us to do a thing, don’t take it lightly as if somebody in the street tells to do a thing. So he took it very seriously and started reading the’ TulsiRamayana’. What was he doing at other times? He was not doing anything at other times. He spent 20hrs a day reading Tulsi Ramayana and the other 4hrs for his sleep, food and bath. He told me when he reached the 100th time, he said many times up to that point it was very difficult. Sometimes he fell asleep and fell on top of the book and got very bored. Sometimes he was thinking, he was foolished to accept this idea and thinking how he gonna get through this, this was impossible.  Even though somehow he persisted and decided to do it completely. By the 100th time that he was reading the book, the inner meaning of the words of Tulsi Das were flashing on him like waves of bliss that was drowning him in ecstasy. He could not even read one line, one line he would read and he burst into tears. He loses all consciousness of world and only Gods presence shining in him.
There is nothing to do with understanding. This is a modern tendency now that to read the scriptures and interpret the inner meaning!
“The Gopis are all the nerves in the Body and Krishna is the Paramatman.  Gopis who went upto the seventh floor is actually the kundalini shakthi going to Sahasrara and the Krishna is walking on the road and the flowers thrown on him is the divine bliss…. !!! “
Some people who talk about the stories like this is just to satisfy the intellectual minds.  Some people think over, what’s the meaning of it? You don’t have to do that all. If you take a book like bhagavatha, Ramayana etc written by a mahatma or a Sage, You read it again, again and again finally what happens is the grace of the Sage will start to dawn in you.  And you get such a bliss, insight and intuition. The divine knowledge will come to you as the blessing and Grace of the Rishi. There is no other way. We can just exercise our intellect anyway and we don’t get it. We have to get the knowledge through Grace and Grace is attained through Repetition and discipline. Mantras are also like that. Just go on repeating again and again, the Grace will be dawn on you.
You might be heard of Shankaracharya of Puri. The same thing happened to him. He studied the Vedas and he felt some Veda mantras are senseless, like they are talking about some mathematical formula 1+1=3! And 3-2=4! He could not understand any of it.
But he had faith that whatever the ancient Rishis said that was true. He approached a Mahatma and the mahatma said that he couldn’t tell the meaning of the mantras but he could tell the way to find out the meaning. The mahatma said; the only way to know about these mantras is to get the Grace of Saraswathy Devi where the mantras come from. So the Shankaracharya was advised to chant the Saraswathi mantra and get the Grace of Devi. He obeyed the Rishis words and started doing Saraswathi mantra Japa and he done this for 8 years! Most of his days, day and night he was repeating devi mantra. And the same thing happened to him as in the case of the Swami with the Ramayana.  It started to dawn on him what was the meaning of the mantras; it’s just flashed to his mind as the Grace of Saraswathy Devi. It was in a kind of hidden language, that actually 3 meant something else, ‘-‘meant something else and 2 meant something else.  And when the meaning was figured out you could perform any mathematical calculation in just one step.  He wrote a book in vedic mathematics which is the essence of what he got in the 8years. He came to America and taught this system in Many Universities and people were flabbergasted. I told this to a friend of mine who came to Vallikkavu (Amritapuri) and he got this book and he took it to Los Alamos Nuclear Research center in New Mexico.  He showed the book to some scientist there and they couldn’t believe it.  Because that system is something that nobody could figure out with their mind. This is the Grace of Repetition and don’t think repetition is a stupid thing. When mother says to regularly repeat your mantra, regularly do your meditation, it’s not just saying and not just to get a good habit. That’s the way you get the Grace.
